Twin Lakes Riding Club English Show — June 26, 2011

Trainer Kayla Edwards accompanied her two students Emma Gunning and Emily Bjorklund to the first Twin Lakes Riding Club English Show of the 2011 season. There was a large turnout, with Emma and Emily having to compete with 12+ riders in both the 12 and under age group and the 13-17 age group.

Emma Gunning, on the Beach Lake Stables lesson horse Vinny, won 1st place ribbons in her equitation walk/trot (12 and under), equitation walk/trot/canter (12 and under), as well as the equitation over fences 2’, for a total of three blue ribbons. Emma also placed second and fifth in two other classes.

Emily Bjorklund, riding Beach Lake Stables veteran lesson horse Nick, did a great job by placing third in two of her classes, and did a great job riding some very good rounds in her jumping classes.

Twin Lakes Riding Club English Show — July 10, 2011

The second Twin Lakes show of the season proved to be another great success for Beach Lake Stables riders. This time the team consisted of Shannah Dieckmann, Destiny Miller, and trainer Kayla Edwards.

One of the highlights of this show had to be rider Shannah Dieckmann on her horse Tahoe. Not only was this Shannah’s first show as an English rider, but it was also the first show she has attended since adopting Tahoe. Placing first in her walk/trot/canter pleasure (18 and over), walk/trot/canter equitation (18 and over), and equitation over fences 2’ (18 and over), Shannah walked away with three blue ribbons along with a second and third in her hunter hack classes.
Destiny Miller also did an amazing job on both trainer Kayla Edwards’ horse Gemini and Dieckmann’s horse Tahoe. Destiny won first in her walk/trot/canter equitation (13-17) on Gemini, and first in the 2’6” jumpers class on Tahoe. She also took home a third and a fourth place ribbon in two other classes. Due to her success in all of her classes, Destiny was awarded with the trophy for high point in her age group (13-17).

Trainer Kayla Edwards came home with a handful of ribbons (two seconds, one third, and two fifths) in the 18 and over age group. Only her third show since purchasing Gemini a year ago, and after being unable to ride for 3 months due to a broken arm, Kayla was just excited that this was the first show in which she would compete with Gemini over fences.

It was a very exciting wrap up to the show when it came down to a jump off between Kayla, on Gemini, and Destiny, on Tahoe, in the 2’6″ jumpers class. The only two riders to ride their first round clean, Kayla and Destiny competed against each other for the blue. While Kayla rode a faster round by 4 seconds, she did suffer 4 faults, which meant that Destiny’s very well ridden clean round would win her the blue ribbon.

After all the rains, Beach Lake horses are fit and frisky and ready for summer and the shows.

February and March. In February, BLS riders Stephanie Roskin, Dr. Camille Knopf, Shane Nathan and Trish Davey headed to D’Alonzo’s Equestrian Center in Stockton to begin preparing their horses for the summer shows. Stephanie aboard her horse Joe did well in the under saddle classes. Trish aboard Quixote (Toby) won her low hunter class. Shane next rode Toby to wins in the low jumpers. Dr. Camille rode her horse Bella for multiple ribbons and Shane also rode Bella in jumpers bringing home a first place ribbon. Ribbons of every color were brought home with lots of blue ones. Then in early March, young rider Kelsey Preston made her English riding debut on Nick at D’Alonzo’s bringing home many ribbons and lots of blues! A good start to the show season. Thank you Lin Collins for coaching us to success!

April. The show season started out at the Starr Vaughn Spectacular in April. Two brave horses, Bella and Quixote (Toby), went into the jumper ring and came home with a 2nd Place and 6th Place. Bella, a fairly seasoned campaigner, was a champ and garnered the ribbons with her owner Dr. Camille Knopf and young rider Shane Nathan. Shane also rode Quixote, who is still quite green, and had fabulous rounds for their first jumper show over 3 feet. Trish Davey, Quixote’s owner, was pleased to see him all grown up and acting just a wee bit like it too!

May. On May 7, BLS junior rider Shane Nathan, with his Trainer Lin Collins, was off again to Star Vaughn. Aboard Quixote again, Shane had excellent goes in hunter and medal classes earning two 2nds and one third: Shane is well on his way to qualifying for the SAJHA Medal Championships. Congratulations Shane and Good Job Quixote!

Also on May 7 Stephanie Roskins took her beautiful mare Apricot to Twin Lakes show and came home with the ribbons at her Western Show including a hard earned first place. Stephanie has brought this young mare up herself with lots of hard work and we were all thrilled at her success!

June

On June 26, trainer Kayla Edwards will take her young hunt seat riders to Twin Lakes for their first show of the season. They worked hard all winter and are looking sharp as tacks. They had planned on attending shows in May but decided to stay home due to the recent outbreak of Equine Herpes virus.
